Laval, January 14, 2010 – Robert Bouvier, president of Teamsters Canada, has asked his 125,000 members throughout the country to help out earthquake victims in Haiti.
What we know is that the earthquake of a magnitude of 7.0 has left at least tens of thousands of fatalities and caused considerable property damage.
“I invite my brothers and sisters to make a donation to the Canadian Red Cross Society,” explains Robert Bouvier, president of Teamsters Canada. “The situation in Haiti is truly catastrophic, and the victims need our help urgently.”
Workers can make a donation on the Red Cross Website.
It will probably take the country months—if not years—to get over this disaster, and Haitians therefore need all the assistance we can give them.
“It is at times like these that our members, and Canadians as a whole, demonstrate a great deal of solidarity,” adds Mr. Bouvier.
Teamsters Canada will also participate in the effort by making a donation to the Red Cross. Details will follow in the coming days.
The Teamsters Union represents 125,000 members in Canada in all trades. The International Brotherhood of Teamsters, with which Teamsters Canada is affiliated, has 1.4 million members in North America.
